Now that our full Metallica studio album discography block has concluded, it’s time for our second bonus one-off-album episode. Our co-host Alex has chosen one of his top three albums of all time, the 1999 album “Ignorance is Bliss” by So-Cal punk rockers Face to Face, to bring to the table. Can he convince the rest of the group on the greatness of this slept-on, controversial album in Face to Face’s catalog? A departure from the normal punk rock/skate-punk style of Face to Face, the band decided to take a chance with “Ignorance is Bliss” to break from the norm and make a dark, layered, atmospheric and orchestrated rock record that diversified the fanbase at the time. Some fans recognize the absolute genius of this record and consider it a masterpiece while others…? Not so much. Where do you stand?

Mark Sometimes when you bridge genres you end up with The Best of Both Worlds and other times you end up doing neither well.

Chris Hard core fans who bashed this record for being too different must be nuts because overall this is still pop punk, which is not my wheel house at all and makes it difficult for me to objectively rate it because I don’t personally like this genre.

Alex My favorite face to face album. Top 3 band, top 3 album of all time.

Kevin A welcome addition to my musical catalog.

Love It or Flush It Legend

L = Love. As many as you like.

F = Flush. Must flush at least one track per album.

B = Buy. Purchased for the ultimate LTS “Best Of” playlist for each of us. One per album.

T = Terminate. Should have never even existed. One per album.

The Rules

Each of us must Love, Flush, Buy, and Terminate AT LEAST ONE track on an album, no matter how great or terrible the album is. Whoever wins the “7 for the Buy” section gets an extra Buy or Terminate to use on the album. Because Chris hosts this section and thus cannot win, he gets an extra Buy or Terminate every 4 albums.

Album Information

Ignorance Is Bliss is the fourth studio album by the punk rock band, Face to Face. The album was released in 1999, and was a musical and lyrical departure from the pop-punk or skate-punk influenced music found on previous albums and EPs.

Though an ‘EconoLive 2’ tour was done in promotion of the album, the band does not currently play any of the songs from the album while touring. Trever Keith flatly refused to play anything from this album on their minitour, according to an interview video on their official MySpace page. In 2012, the band had a change of heart and decided to go on tour and perform the entire album acoustically. This album’s song “The Devil You Know (God’s A Man)” is featured in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer first soundtrack album.

The album was reissued in 2012 on Trevor Keith’s own label, Antagonist Records, with the songs from Why Aren’t You Happy? EP as bonus tracks.

Reception was mainly positive and many noted the shift in style from skate punk to more alternative rock sound.
